Tallahassee lawmakers recently ratified redistricting legislation to rig our upcoming Congressional elections. Floridians may not yet grasp the implications of the Legislature’s capitulation to the governor on this. His enacted map is radical. It blatantly violates Florida’s Constitution.
While debate about the map has highlighted equality issues, you cannot miss its bottom-line: a Republican majority of 20 to 8 Congressional seats. This was done despite Florida’s virtually equal partisan voter registrations and almost 4 million Independent voters. The map aims to disenfranchise large numbers of Independent, Democrat and minority voters for the next 10 years. Its message to ALL voters: “no need to vote, the fix is in.”
