It’s probably too much to hope for, but there appears to be some possibility that Florida legislators will politely tell Gov. Ron DeSantis that — though they love him dearly and believe his conservative ideas are just what the state needs, now and forevermore — the state really does have three separate and independent branches of government.

In the recent legislative session, lawmakers fulfilled their legal duty to redraw the lines of congressional and state legislative districts. The state House and Senate maps were a snap, winning approval by the state Supreme Court so all the members could go home and run for re-election, if they wish.
